Nature Education in Action: Tide Pool Adventures

An afternoon at the MacKerricher tide pools turned into a living classroom as nature educators Sue and Heather guided a school group through the rhythms of the coast. With the tide pulled back, the rocky shoreline revealed a mosaic of life: anemones swaying in shallow pools, tiny crabs darting between stones, and sea stars clinging to the rocks.

Sue and Heather encouraged curiosity at every step, helping students slow down, look closely, and ask questions. Hands hovered over the water’s surface as they learned what to touch gently and what to simply observe. Laughter mixed with discovery as each new find sparked excitement.

By the time the tide began its return, students left with a deeper sense of connection to the ocean and a newfound appreciation for the delicate ecosystems thriving along the edge of land and sea.
